Green Schools 2019/2020
We have a new Green School committee formed this year led by Mrs Lynch to carry on the great work of the previous Green Schools teams. They are working to ensure our school continues with its Green school initiatives and are continually working to identify ways to build on these further ensuring our school is as green as it can be.

RAISING OUR GREEN FLAG FOR WATER!
On Friday 10th June 2016 the pupils, staff and community
of Croghan attended an outdoor ceremony to raise our green flag for water.
The Green Schools Committee, aided by our former caretaker Kevin, raised our latest Green Flag in a wonderful ceremony on Friday.
All of the children took part on the day and began the ceremony by reciting our fantastic Water Code, composed by 2nd class pupil Éabha McGuinness. Following this, our principal Mrs. Kathleen McNamee thanked the children for all their hard work in achieving the flag. She also gave special mention to the Green School Committee who have worked tirelessly over the past 2 years. The Committee was led by our 1st and 2nd class teacher Mrs. Greene. The members of the committee included parents, Sarah O'Brien and Mary Jenkins, our caretaker Kevin and children from the different classes - Éanna Malone, Kate Hannon, Finn Reynolds, Peter McGrath, Daniel O'Brien, Caoimhe Casey, Kobe McGuire and Keelin Woodlock. We were also fortunate to have former member of our committee, Rebekah Egan, join us for the occasion.
Kevin helped the children raise the flag on the day as the assembled parents and children applauded. After this, the children were given the opportunity to sing their lovely water song for the parents that joined us at the ceremony.

RAISING OUR GREEN FLAG FOR ENERGY
On June the 12th, a lovely Summer’s day the pupils, staff and community
of Croghan attended an outdoor ceremony to raise our green flag for energy. The
children really marked the occasion by dressing in green and this added a
festive touch to the ceremony. Mrs. Kathleen Mc Namee our school principal
welcomed everyone and invited Kate Cunningham to read the Green School Code she
composed. Mrs.Mc Namee said she was especially proud of the creative talents of
the children in the school and that the Green School Programme promoted these
talents. Then Rebekah Egan, Katie Hayes and Kelly Sheerin read poems they
composed also. The Green School Committee then explained the steps the school
took to implement a plan of action on energy in the school. Mrs. Mc Namee
thanked Katie Spollen, Orla Dempsey, Ann-Marie Kilmurray, Áine Scully, Tracy
Hannon, Jay Kennedy, Adam Kennedy and Aoife Mc Manus for their dedication to
the programme. She also thanked the parents on the Green School Committee for
their help and attendance at meetings. Next Orla Fogarty the Green Schools
Co-Ordinator with Offaly Co. Council congratulated the children and staff of the school on their achievement. Mrs. Mc Namee drew everyones attention to the wishing tree. On it were the wishes the children made about the future of their environment. Mrs. Doyle the Green School Co- Ordinator in Scoil Bhríde showed everyone the buddleia bush that is being planted in the school garden. The children should have fun identifying the butterflies on it each Autumn. Mrs. Mc Namee sincerely thanked the school caretaker for his wonderful care of the school environment. It was because of his dedication and hard work that the children chose Mr. Kevin Mc. Namee to raise the Green Flag. She drew attention to the fact that the school’s next Green Flag will be all about the topic of water and hopefully this will help the parents reduce their water consumption at home. The children then did their Green school rap composed by some of the pupils and chosen at an X-Factor Competition. Kevin Mc Namee then raised the Green Flag.
