Update from Bishop Denis Nulty- First Holy Communion/ Confirmation
First Holy Communion & Confirmation: I am very aware that we are entering the ‘high season’ for First Holy Communion ceremonies. I am also conscious that 39 out of our 56 parishes have not yet celebrated Confirmation. In honesty it is difficult to see a huge change post the current restrictions, which expire on May 5th. With that in mind, as First Holy Communion ceremonies are already diaried for the weekends of May, I suggest they, like Confirmation ceremonies are now postponed until we get further guidance regarding large public gatherings.
I want to thank our Principals and teachers for the great work they do in helping prepare our young people for the sacraments, work done in cooperation with the local parish and the families of the young people. I also thank Maeve Mahon, our Coordinator for Primary Education. This is a hugely regretful decision, but it is important that while the ceremonies may be postponed, the preparation continues. In early May resources will be sent out by email from Maeve for parishes and for schools and available to families and the wider community on the KandLe website.

Aladdin Connect- Important Information
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Our school is delighted to announce that we will shortly roll out the Aladdin Schools Connect to parents/guardians of children in our classes, in conjunction with the support of our Parents’ Association.
The school uses the Aladdin Schools software service www.aladdin.ie for administrative purposes and Connect will give you secure access to messages from the school and to details of your child’s attendance, reports cards etc via secure login from your internet browser or Aladdin Connect App.
Aladdin Connect is a fantastic way to enhance a school's communication with parents. It enables parents to stay connected and informed about their child's education by:
- Ensuring that the school has their most up to date contact information
- Allowing schools to gather permission(s) from parents
- Allowing parents to quickly and efficiently select preferred slots for parent teacher meetings
- Keeping parents apprised of their child's attendance
- Keeping parents up to date on school and classroom news via noticeboard messages
- Allowing parents to view what items their child had for homework today
- Allowing parents view their child's approved report card
- Allowing parents to view their child's latest standardised test results
Along with strengthening our home/school partnership, we also envisage Aladdin Connect helping the school by:
- Helping to improve attendance by allowing parents to keep track of any school days their child may have currently missed, along with late arrival and early leaving information.
- Helping to reduce the amount of class/school notes being sent home
- Helping the school/ teachers communicate with parents when the need arises
- Reducing costs by eliminating the need to send school report cards by post
- Reducing costs by reducing the number of text messages that need to be sent
You can rest reassured that Aladdin Schools uses state-of-the-art security to safeguard information entered by the school and data is stored and processed in strict compliance with Irish and European data protection laws.
In the next couple of days, you will receive a text containing your registration link. There will be one link per parent which will allow the parent to access information for all their children in the school from one user account. Please do not forward this text or share this link as this is a unique registration code for each parent for your child/children in this school. During registration you will choose a password that will be used in conjunction with your email address to securely access the Aladdin Connect going forward. Once you are registered you will be sent an email with links to download the Aladdin Connect App for your mobile device. The main advantage of using the App is to receive immediate alerts for app messages sent by your school. Downloading the App is highly recommended to enhance both the parent and school's Connect experience.
Please note: If there are any personal concerns, or legal provisions in place regarding giving access to Connect to any parent/guardian of your child please contact the school by e-mailing [email protected] in confidence to discuss or restrict access as required.
We hope that you enjoy using Aladdin Connect. Your class teacher, the secretary or myself will welcome any feedback or questions you may have.
Yours sincerely,
Caroline Reynolds

Easter Message
3rd April 2020
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As the Easter holidays dawn, I would like to commend the hard work and dedication which has been demonstrated by all teachers, parents and children. During the last few weeks, we have undertaken new and innovative ways of learning which has been a learning curve for us, as teachers, and I wish to thank you, as parents and guardians, for your support in working with us under these circumstances. During the holidays, some children may wish to continue some work by way of comfort and routine to them or some may wish to take a well earned break. Your child(ren)'s teacher will check back in with students on Monday 20th April, at which point we hope to be returning to school. If this is not the case, we will be in touch closer to the time with updated class folders. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Blessed Easter from everyone at Scoil Bhríde. I enclose a fantastic suite of resources from our Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin for praying at home during Holy Week. In an Easter message from the Diocesan team "May God's abundant blessings rain down on you and your families during the Easter Season and may we all emerge from our cocoons safe and well".
I sincerely hope that you all keep well and stay healthy.

IPPN message to Parents- March 2020
National Council for Special Education
Entering a second full week of home-schooling, parents are gradually developing a structure to the day, factoring in lessons for school-going children. We are in unchartered territory and for many the prospect of home-schooling is daunting, but parents should be reassured that they are not expected to fill the shoes of a class teacher and cover entire weekly and monthly plans. Rather, parents should be cognisant of the fact that children learn in a variety of ways and in everyday contexts (whether its cooking, washing, cycling, planting, board games, Lego etc.) Opportunities are endless, and as the old adage says, “Every day is a school day”.
Teachers are devising interesting, engaging and accessible resources on various online forums to assist parents and numerous companies and publishers are offering special packages free of charge to support learning in the home setting over the coming weeks. Among the materials compiled by the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) are online resources specifically targeting children with Special Educational Needs with input from Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

School on TV
RTE are broadcasting an hour of school on the television to support pupils and parents at home during the Covid-19 outbreak. It will run from 11am to 12pm Monday to Friday on RTE2 starting on Monday, March 30th. The programme will be aimed at primary school children from 1st to 6th Class.
Useful Resources
19th March 2020.
Dear Parents,
As you all know, the Taoiseach has announced the closure of schools for a period of time, in line with the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team. The Government, in conjunction with the public health authorities, will keep the situation under ongoing review. Any changes will be communicated as soon as it is known. All pupils are asked to practise social distancing and to minimise physical contact with each other, to help avoid the spread of Covid-19. This is an unprecedented situation and I am conscious of the impact on our school community. Therefore, we need to find creative ways in which we can work together in the best interests of our pupils. As well as teacher assigned tasks set last Thursday 12th March, I am including a very comprehensive list of online resources for children in order to minimise the impact on teaching and learning. We are also working on individual class folders, which I will update you on ASAP. Please note that most major book publishers have enabled free access for their resources so your child can access their books online, should they not have their copy at home. As parents, I can understand how it may be difficult to juggle work and childcare commitments, or indeed that work commitments may not be a certainty in this present climate. I hope that by keeping in touch with you that I can somehow alleviate some pressure in your lives and help you to help your children to continue the great learning that has taken place up to now during this school year.
Take care and keep safe,
Caroline Reynolds.

This week in Scoil Bhríde we are celebrating Catholic Schools week. The theme this year is Living in Harmony with God's Creation. Pupils have been reflecting on the things which we each can do in our lives to ensure we are living in harmony with God, nature and all of those around us. This week we also celebrated the feast of St Blaise and St Brigid with a school mass. Thank you to the pupils from 5th and 6th class who gathered reeds and enabled the class to learn to make a St Brigid's cross. Pupils learned about St Blaise and had their throats blessed during mass on Monday. As Catholic Schools Week draws to a close, we will be remembering the golden rule; to treat each other as we would like to be treated.
We are very lucky this month to have Grainne from Edenderry RFC in our school every Tuesday, teaching us the rules and skills involved in playing Tag Rugby. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class have been enjoying getting out onto the pitch and testing out their passing skills.
Our Christmas Concert has been scheduled to take place on Thursday 19th December at 7 p.m. Please join us for a night of musical festivities!
Food Dudes
Food Dudes begins on Tuesday 19th November. This is a government initiative to encourage healthy eating amongst our youth. There will be a delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables to Junior Infants-2nd class for 16 consecutive days and to 3rd-6th class for 8 days. Thank you to Mr. Byrne and the children in 5th/6th class for co-ordinating this.
Academy of Code
Our computer coding lessons have concluded in the 3rd-6th classes for another year. The children have had great fun learning about coding, giving them the opportunity to prepare for new concepts being introduced into the curriculum across primary and secondary schools in the future. All students are now all set up on GSuite and we are very grateful to Eoin, our tutor, for this opportunity. Also, we would like the acknowledge the subsidy from our Parents' Association towards this cost.
Cumann na mBunscol Champions- 3 in a row!
The boys and girls of Scoil Bhríde Croghan put on a magnificent display of footballing skills in O'Connor Park, Tullamore, to beat Daingean and win the Cumann na mBunscol Autumn championship for the third year in a row. Croghan overcame the thoughts of a loss to Daingean early in October and managed to work as a team to overturn the previous result. The team, led by Odhrán Briody, credit their hardwork on the field aswell as a great team spirit for the success.
New Junior Infants
Eighteen Junior Infants joined our school this term and they were extended a very warm welcome by all in Scoil Bhríde. It is heartening to see how well they have settled into their new school, with the help of their teacher, Ms. Wilson, and all staff and pupils. We wish them well as they begin a new chapter in their school lives.
GAA 5 Star Centre
Scoil Bhríde, Croghan is privileged to become one of the first few schools in Ireland to achieve the 'GAA 5 Star Centre' status. Bláthnaid and Cameron raised the flag with many parents and members of the local community coming out to witness the event. Cian Donohue represented St. Brigid's -Croghan GAA and commended the children's interest and participation in football. Many thanks to Mr. Brady, Mr. Wynne, Mr. Hannon, Mr. Gillivan (football coach), Cian Donohue, Croghan GAA and everyone who helped the school to gain this achievement.
Sports Day 2019
All the pupils in Scoil Bhríde had a fantastic sports day. The children took part in a jam packed programme of sporting activities. Each class took part in Basketball, Benchball, Hurling ,Rounders and an Obstacle Course. Thankfully the weather was nice so a visit from the ice cream van was welcomed!

We are indebted to Mrs. Greene leading the Carol service and to all of the staff who all played a role in its preparation.

The children made a super effort and everyone looked really well in their costumes!
